THE SONGS

So Bright

While most of the songs on the album dig deep into feelings and are relationship focused, we knew we wanted the album to start with something both upbeat and universal. So Bright does that

Holding On

A song about the struggle to hold on during a difficult time. The rise up to the occasion for the one you love. It's about reaching deep inside of yourself to be more. This was going to be a piano vocal only track until Doug Davis created this layered arrangement

Loving Bed

A song of encouragement. Going through the day hoping to find a way to end it on a loving note. Great Corky drum track set this one off in a great direction early on in the recording process.

Don't Hide Away

Simple message, simple song. Started as a piano only track then we created layers that allowed for it to have dynamics that weren't there in the original demo. Great Synth work from Mr. Davis

Where Did You Go

Love how at the mid-point of the album we have this more groove driven track. A plea to one who has disappeared either literally or in some other way. This one was pretty set from the demo phase but became much more through the process.

Darling Make It Real

Basic pop ballad, not unlike the demo that was piano and bass. Here we just added a lone trumpet and a great Hammond part from Mr. Davis

Mystified

Back to a more upbeat track musically. Coming from real life feelings with a good dose of poetic license that makes this a little closer to a "I got dumped" song. Great Mick Fleetwood style drum track from Corky and Doug Davis adding guitar and synth touches.

Spark Of Life

So, while the title of the album originally came from a line in "So Bright" this was one of the songs I wrote while waiting on Doug Davis to get back to working on the Album. This is kind of a bookend song to So Bright and can be thought of as the album finale as the next song is more like the epilogue.

Saddest Ending

I originally wrote this thinking it was a third person song but in the context of the album I realized I was really addressing myself. It's me warning me not to let how hard things can be keep me from happy ending. After Doug's great string arrangement at the end where he takes elements from other songs on the album and weaves them together my favorite thing is the last four chords that end the album. It's just four simple piano chords but as Doug plays them the fourth and last chord does not resolve in either a positive or negative way, it is in fact a question mark.
